Our favourite Star Wars Day marketing campaigns
Every 4th of May, Star Wars nerds unite to celebrate the much-loved franchise. It’s not just fans though, us marketers love nothing more than an international day to hang our campaigns on and these days there’s more than you can shake a lightsaber at. That said, few international days are as popular as this one so it makes sense for brands to jump aboard.
This year we’ve rounded up some of our favourite Star Wars Day marketing, here it is:
Taking to social media for a bit of CSR, Disney and Lucasfilm have teamed up to celebrate the month of May with #RoarForChange. The initiative will see $1 donated to humanitarian charity UNICEF for every tweet or post with a Chewbacca impression using the hashtag #RoarForChange.
Yes, right you are. Amazon Alexa has got Star Wars skills. With the skill enabled you can play a Star Wars quiz and get your Alexa to speak like yoda. Fun that sounds.
Heathrow Airport have done a great job of celebrating Star Wars day this year by changing their flight screens to gloriously Star Wars-y versions. Massively shareable, this has worked a treat on social media.
Toy chain The Entertainer is offering free lego Star Wars posters to any little ones that come in dressed as their favourite character. This is a great combination of fun and marketing and seeing as they sell the outfits it could lead to some increased sales too.
We just had to include a little tech joke. There’s plenty flying around but we particularly enjoyed this from @DevModeio on Twitter
All that’s left to say is Happy Star Wars day and May the fourth be with you, as it is with our dev team.
